BIRT iServer can integrate information from any data source and application, and can be phased in, adding features and resources as required.

Rich Information Applications (RIAs) that include a BIRT iServer allow users to access Actuate BIRT, BIRT open-source products, BIRT Spreadsheet options, BIRT Performance Management, e.Report and Analytics products, and to create and deliver resulting reports via a web-based user interface. With BIRT iServer, organizations can deploy the widest variety of reports, from simple lists to RIAs running inside and outside the firewall.

With ActuateOne, the iServer has been extended to provide multiple options for BIRT implementations:

  • Cloud Implementation: ActuateOne is cloud ready, providing clustering and elastic provisioning with support for a stateless image that allows administrators to make changes on the fly without service interruptions.

Cloud Implementation

Cloud Implementation

Cloud computing is the buzz, but what does it mean?

BIRT iServer

Actuate BIRT iServer is cloud ready and cloud compatible, providing automatic, elastic clustering with dynamic provisioning. An iServer cloud deployment can be implemented by any organization in a private cloud, a hybrid cloud or a public cloud.

  • In a private cloud, the organization utilizes its own infrastructure, organizing and optimizing its capacity to provide content to users.
  • In a hybrid cloud, the organization hosts part of its services on site, and contracts with a provider for offsite services; for example, an online retail store might host its own services onsite for 11 months of the year, but transfer those services to a cloud provider during the busy month of December.
  • In a public cloud, an organization outsources its server service, “renting” the infrastructure required to run its applications.

The BIRT iServer provides organizations with the ability to create a stateless image, which can be added or removed from an installation as demand grows or subsides; this stateless image is what is deployed in a cloud. The power of the image is that it lets the application respond to varying degrees of demand.

  • An elastic cluster lets organizations automatically add or remove nodes from an iServer cluster.
  • This capacity provides organizations with the ability to add or delete nodes without powering up or down, preventing service interruptions and facilitating 24/7 uptime.

Benefits of this configuration include:

  • Lowered maintenance costs
  • Decreased/minimal administration costs
  • Increased/decreased processing power, adjustable to demand
  • Stateless image simplifies adding/deleting nodes as required
  • Multi-tenant configuration, lowering costs and allowing companies/departments/sites to share the same server
